Standard Base (7/8" Wide Base) Taper Candles
This is where you will find your "regular" or "standard" size taper candle. This candle usually has a fitted base that is 7/8" wide. The candle is often slightly wider at the base (just above the fitted area) and becomes narrower as the tip is approached. This design is among the most ideal for preventing drips and yielding the most amount of light (since the flame is not surrounded by wax)

Formal Dining candles often have a tapered base that is 7/8" wide. The candle has straight sides, and does not taper along the body of the candle. The tip is often designed into what is called a "formal flute".
